Virtual Desktops

Your notes automatically appear on all your virtual desktops. No setup needed on Windows and KDE Plasma.

How It Works

Most desktop environments let you organize windows into separate virtual desktops (also called workspaces). BetterStickies notes follow you across all your desktops so they're always visible while you work.

On KDE Plasma the hub follows you to every desktop too; on other platforms it stays on one. Either way, you can always reach it from the system tray icon on any desktop.

Windows

Notes appear on all virtual desktops automatically. There's nothing to turn on or configure.

One side effect: notes won't appear in the taskbar or Alt+Tab switcher. You can still access all your notes through the hub or the system tray icon.

KDE Plasma

Notes appear on all virtual desktops and all Plasma Activities automatically, just like on Windows. Notes also won't appear in the taskbar or pager.

KDE has both virtual desktops and Plasma Activities (a separate way to organize your workspace). BetterStickies notes follow you across both. No configuration needed.

Using the Flathub or Snap version? Automatic pinning isn't available there. These builds run in a security sandbox that blocks the system access this feature needs, so your notes stay on one desktop and remain listed in the taskbar and Alt+Tab. Both come from the same mechanism. To keep a note on every desktop, click the note and press Alt+F3 to open KDE's window menu, then choose Move to Desktop → All Desktops. (Notes have no titlebar, but Alt+F3 works on any window. The AppImage and other versions work automatically.)

Linux (other desktops)

Virtual desktop pinning is not supported on non-KDE Linux desktops. The available methods proved too unreliable across different desktop environments.

Since version 1.2, notes on these desktops identify themselves to the system as accessory (utility) windows, which window lists conventionally skip, so a dozen open notes no longer crowd your taskbar and Alt+Tab switcher. Your desktop has the final say here: if notes still appear in your switcher, let us know which desktop you use.

Tip: Most desktop environments let you pin any window to all workspaces from the titlebar right-click menu.

macOS

Support for macOS Spaces is planned for a future release.

Good to Know

Notes stay in the same position when switching desktops: they don't move.
On KDE Plasma, the hub also appears on every desktop. On Windows it stays on one desktop. Either way, the system tray icon (and the taskbar) reach it from anywhere.
