Virtual Desktops

Pin your notes across all virtual desktops so they stay visible no matter which workspace you switch to.

How It Works

Most desktop environments let you organize windows into separate virtual desktops (also called workspaces). By default, your notes only appear on the desktop where you created them. Turning on "Show on All Desktops" makes a note follow you everywhere.

Pinning a Single Note

Right-click on any note to open the context menu, then check Show on All Desktops. The note will immediately appear on all your virtual desktops. Uncheck it to go back to a single desktop.

This setting is saved with the note — it survives restarts, trash and restore, and export.

Pinning All Notes by Default

If you want all your notes pinned at once:

Open Settings (gear icon in the hub)
Under Note Defaults, check Show on All Virtual Desktops by Default
Click OK

All your notes — existing and new — will be pinned to all desktops immediately. The hub itself also follows this setting.

Windows

No setup needed. Pinned notes won't appear in the taskbar or Alt+Tab switcher — this is a side effect of how Windows implements the feature. You can still access your notes through the hub or the system tray icon.

KDE Plasma

KDE uses Plasma Activities instead of simple virtual desktops. BetterStickies integrates with Activities directly — you can assign notes to specific activities via the right-click menu. The "Show on All Desktops" option is hidden on KDE since Activities are the better fit.

Linux (X11 and Wayland)

Virtual desktop pinning is not supported on non-KDE Linux desktops. The available methods on Linux proved too unreliable across different desktop environments, so the option is hidden. Wayland desktops don't offer a way for apps to pin themselves to all workspaces.

macOS

Support for macOS Spaces is planned for a future release.

Good to Know

The setting is per-note. You can have some notes pinned and others on a single desktop.
Pinning a note doesn't change its position — it stays exactly where it was.
Toggling the global default applies to all existing notes immediately — you don't have to update each one by hand.
